[SOLVED] Opera save attachment from email fails
« on: July 26, 2010, 07:25:13 PM »
I have happily been using Opera 10.70 for a number of days. I have just discovered that an email that I forwarded to myself from Windows Opera and picked up on Linux Opera I fail to save attachment.

I go through the motions, right click on attachment > save as or Save to Download folder > ENTER all looks no message.

When I go looking for the file nowhere to be found must have done it over 6 times.  I have used konsole: updatedb and then locate file with no result

Can somebody test this and post  ??? ???

If that is a small file download could have been completed without your notice. Have you checked the 'Downloads'? (Tools --> Downloads)

Yes I have just checked that too. I am not sure I have explained it properly as it is obvious to me of course.

1.. Opera 10.70 installed  ;D
2.. Use the built in mail agent to receive and send email. (on a number of pc's)
3.. I receive a forwarded message with a short text only attachment, this is a file that needs to be copied into a system directory
4.. Trying to save/separate this from the email by doing as described above.

In the past this has worked fine and I use it often, well familiar with the procedure.

I do not recall if I have used Opera 10.70 to do so until now, because I have probably only been using it for about 10 days if that long.

Sounds like you are using Opera, could you try and send an email to yourself with a text file attached and carry out the exercise.   ;D

The save the attachment has vanished after I did a re-boot of the system. This came about after I had noticed gkrellm go bananas with hardly anything running.

Following bothered me, watching gkrellm indicated too high cpu load, because hardly any applications running, I have enough power too,  it takes some time to realise that cpu is over the usual level, when save attachment problem showed up and cursor disappearing I started gkrellm.

Problem:
Opera version 10.70, Cursor becomes invisible part of the time, suddenly just fade and then return a second or two later, so it seemed. I was a bit slow here before I checked with 'gkrellm' and 'top'

I found that my two processors were running at 65% and more all the time when they ought to be doing around 2-3%. This is something triggered by Opera, I believe.  The processors load continues when closing Opera on Linus system and it seems that only log out and login will reset normal cpu loading. (Have recorded pictures of gkrellm)

When checking with 'top' dbus-daemon is always top of the list at around 12%

I have also seen something similar in Windows. Here Opera 10.54 involved but when closing Opera the load drops. Her I used wireshark to trap internet traffic but that did not reveal anything abnormal as far as I could see.

Any hint on what I can do to trap the operation and get a closer picture of what is going on.  I have been unable to figure out what triggers the "overload".

Perhaps this relates to the failing to save a file from Opera.

I am getting the option to save attachment. I am not using opera-10.70. I am using opera-qt version (10.11). I have attached the snapshot.

If low bandwidth mode is enabled, attachment files are not downloaded automatically. In that case, you need to specifically tell to fetch complete message in which you are interested. I don't know if this could solve your problem.

I will regard the mail attachment problem as solved for the time being, what is worse the too high cpu load. Will start a new thread for that.

My reply #3, You would have to read closely to see it. I made the mistake of mixing another problem in the topic. Not a good idea but I thought they might be related   ;D
