Neal,

I ran mylivecd script as explained in "Remastering 2010" thread, during build up process my cpu usage nearly 100% on all cores and cpu temprature is crossing normal operational limits. System hangs if I let it continue for a while. My system configuration is AMD X4 620/Asus 785D-VEVO/8400GS/2GB DDR3 KINGSTON RAM.  pls help me.

I'll try. Which version of PCLinuxOS are you using? Which DE? What is the output of the command df?

[root@localhost ganni]# df
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda5              16G  6.2G  8.2G  44% /

I am using PCLinuxOS 2010.7 KDE release.

So you're using a monolithic partition? No separate /home partition?

I can't recreate your temperature problem here. Mylivecd does run the processor at a high percent though. (dual core) I haven't got a x4 processor to test on. Can you provide any more details?

Yes, monolithic partition. Does this mylivecd script generates any log file? system is quite stable in all other applications.

Did the ISO complete?
Check in /tmp to see if there are any files left there.

So no other app uses so much of your cpu and raises the temp?

Clean up your system with bleachbit and bleachbit-root. Open a terminal and enter the command top. Move the terminal to one side so you can keep it in view. Open another instance of your terminal and move it to the other side. Run the commans to create your remaster. While it is running, watch the top output. What running processes show as running close to 100%?

This is the screen shot while running mylivecd script. In top output, clearly mksquashfs process is using 100% cpu usage. ISO creation could not be completed. CPU usage goes to 100% at the start of "creating compressed iamge".

What was the error message on failure to create the remaster?

Running squashfs is resource intensive.

Yes it is since it is compressing 2.7 gig into a 700mb iso but it won't burn out your CPU. I've run mylivecd 100s of times and my dual core amd 64 still runs like a scalded dawg.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

I saw the same thing when doing a ZenMini remaster.Temperatures up to 60+c when normally around 40c and max cpu usage but didn't get any failures, except for my ticker skipping a few beats  ;D
Asus P5QL/EPU Motherboard,Pentium 4 3ghz dual core processor,1gb Kingston ram,Geforce EN210 graphics card.

My dual core amd 64 runs like a scalded dawg, too.

Hey, Tex! Will we switch to xz compression? ;) ;D

Thanks for all the replies,

CPU temp is crossing 60+, I may need to cleanup my cpufan..
Is it possible to make the script to take lesser resources while compressing and consume more time for finalization.
I am a hardware expert and know very little about coding ;D

Yes, if it is getting that hot, a good clean up should help. As for recoding the software, I don't think so.
