Bluetooth Connectivity
« on: July 24, 2010, 05:40:05 PM »
Hi,
I guess this is a hardware question? How can I tell if my Lenovo G550 supports Bluetooth connectivity?  The skimpy manual doesn't make any reference to it.  So, I'm guessing it doesn't have the built-in capability.
Thanks

JohnBoy,
Been there, done that. But, I'm not sure what I'm looking for. As they say, you can't prove a negative. I think what I'm looking for is not there meaning that I don't have it.  Under CC/hardware/detected hardware, I see the ethernet card including both wired and wireless adapters, but see nothing specifically pertaining to "Bluetooth".  On the other hand, if I open "Configure Your Desktop" and go to "Advanced User Settings/Hardware" I see a reference to "BlueZ (Bluetooth management using the blueZ stack).  So, how do I interpret this?
Thanks

It seems that is a listing of the backend package that would be used to manage Bluetooth.
I see it here also, as well as such things as Lirc ....  although this is an old desktop without such things attached.

This is what shows if I plug in a Bluetooth dongle .......

Just take a look in the BIOS. If you've got bluetooth you'll see it listed in plain english. Also if the Lenovo doesn't have a "Bluetooth" LED then it doesn't have it.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Johnboy,
I assume that if my machine had integrated bluetooth I would see it in the list as you illustrated. Thanks.
4evergr8ful,
I didn't think about looking in the bios.  Looked and saw no reference to bluetooth. So, I assume that I don't have it.
The confusing thing about the indicator light is that I found a couple of lines in the manual that says if you machine is equipped with bluetooth, turn it on by sliding the switch on the front.  There is such a switch (and LED), but I think it only pertains to wireless LAN.
Thanks for the help.
