[SOLVED] Differences between KDE 2010 in point releases
« on: July 24, 2010, 12:45:00 PM »
I have several machines with 2010KDE installed from different times, each using the latest iso at that time.  I keep all of them upgraded via the package manager. But there are display differences on two machines.
My netbook (2010.1) has two cashews displaying and windows can't be moved between them.  The right top is labeled 'Tool Box' and the left top one is labeled 'Panel Tool Box'.  How do I get back to the one right top cashew without making a mess?
Another older machine installed with .7 has a box with a rightside set of symbols surround the desktop icons unlike the rest of my machines.  What's going on and how do I make it like the others without re-installing from a 2010.1 or earlier iso and updating?
These are minor issues, but I'd like to better understand what is going on.

Is it possible for you to do a screenshot of each desktop so we can have a look-see?

cool effect! I used my telescope to analyse the picture and I think the problem is this - The second cashew (top left ) is actually a very small panel . Right click the desktop - select - lock icons (or something similar) and see if it goes away . If it does it means it is a panel and then somehow you have to try and delete the panel .

Alternatively as your desktop is not really modified you can reset it a few ways ,
may have to search for more information on this - but there is a package in synaptic that will reset kde to its defaults (sorry but i forget the name )

And 2. right click the desktop and in the settings change it from "folder view" to "desktop" - this should reset it .

If you right click on the cashew you get the option to remove the panel.

I too have double cashew in the corner of the screen .....  because I have a top panel cashew as well as the usual one.

Sorry for the small screenshot; the original was too big to attach and gimp reduced it too much.  Alex, thanks for the telescope - and the advice. I tried your #2 and the left cashew was really a separate panel. I was able to delete it.
The netbook is fixed, perhaps later tonight I'll be able to get to the other machine and send a screenshot from that one (upstairs and I'm an old guy with bum legs).
Thanks for the help!
Alan

Since my original message, I've discovered other issues with the second machine, so I ended up doing a reinstall with 2010.1 instead. The problem is now gone.  Thanks for the help on the first machine!
