USB 2 LPT print problem
« on: July 22, 2010, 10:39:19 PM »
Hi friends,

First I wrote in this topic / http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,70853.0.html /, but the name "Solved" mislead.

I apologize for my English, but I mainly use Google translator.

My task is to use an old dot matrix printer, which has only LPT port with a laptop that has no LPT only USB ports. For this purpose I use a USB to LPT cable /China made/ which works fine with Mandriva and MS XP. But I like more PCLinuxOS and to me it's perfect Distro.
When I first turn on the cable under Mandriva immediately below the right pop-up that included a printer and only remains for me to choose the correct printer driver. Unfortunately it's not working here.
I have read this topic / and many others / I do not have success.
First I changed the following:
AUTO_SETUP_QUEUES_ON_PRINTER_CONNECTED=yes
Then I reinstall the Printerdrake, but got no result - in PCC nothing is appears and when you try and add it manually //dev/usb/lp0, ........ /dev/usb/lp1, ...). also nothing happens.

I checked the packages one by one - all of which nstalled in Mandriva are installed here.
In Мandriva line is hal:///org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1a86_7584_noserial_printer_noserial

lsusb in PCLinuxOS
[em@localhost ~]$ lsusb

Distro - PCLinux 2010.2 updated. KDE, Gnome, LXDE.

Well I hope I described my problem and rely on help from you. Thanks in advance!

Once again I want to congratulate you for the great distro!

This is a copy from one of the responses from the link that you posted - have you tried this part ?

Well, setting up the printer through the control center didn't work as normally but i got it recognized now. In Printer setup there is the tab options on top of the screen where you can choose between expert mode or configuring automatic "something" (sorry i am using the Dutch interface now) When i choose configuring, a screen pops up and the first two options where unchecked. One of which is automatic detection of connected usb printers. I checked both options and after that the printer is now recognized but not printing....
Hey at least the beast is known now
