[Solved] root konsole strugling in pclos2010
« on: July 22, 2010, 08:09:39 AM »
In pclos2010-KDE 4.4.5 I am running my head against wall.

I have been used to that many programs, I no longer feel confident saying any program, could be started from either user or root konsole, by typing the name. No longer

1.. Generally user konsole fine, nano, kwrite, dolphin, konqueror, okular

2.. Root konsole can only handle nano the rest crashes out

Right now I am accessing forum via Konqeror from liveCD of LXDE-pclos2010.07 no customisation

I expect anyone can verify for themselves the result so I have not copied my results in topic, but is available in case I have made an ass of myself again.   ;D

Then use su - to root instead of su

You can also edit your .bashrc file and add

alias su='su -'

then you won't have to remember to type the dash after su.

I think the "alias" command is extremely useful - its one of those hidden gems that doesn't get the "air play" it deserves (in my ever so 'umble opinion)

 :o :o :o  I was just revisiting this topic to look up a detail, actually had forgotten about this.
The problem have vanished, I can call kwrite, dolphin, okular and konqueror I like that

I did update 2 days ago or was it yesterday, may have something to do with the resolution.

I like to use for example when you are in konsole and need to look up the content of klipperrc: which is in  /home/gert/.kde4/share/config/klipperrc

Code: [Select]
[gert@localhost ~]$ junk .kde4/share/config/klipperrc
Command not found.
 * Waiting in queue..
 * Loading list of packages...

[gert@localhost ~]$ kwrite .kde4/share/config/klipperrc

It works, content flashes up in kwrite, great.

The junk command deliberate just to show what file path to follow in my user directory where I am at the moment

kwrite of course can be replaced by nano (always available)

Woodoman again  ;D
