[Solved] Audio converter software

Hello there:

I am looking for an audio converter software. In my last distro, soundconverter were the program I used. But in PCLinuxOS I cant find any program to do the work. Can you help me?

Hi xul,

One of the tools I quite like for changing audio files is pacpl

You can right click on the selected file(s) and choose which format you want to change it to and hey presto - its done.

BTW there is an app in the repos named soundgonverter - maybe that will do what soundconverter does

You also got audiokonverter which can be used by right clicking on the file to be converted (same as pacpl that menotu suggested).
Then there is Konvertable and Transcoder Audio Edition but all of these have only very basic settings for making MP3s with the exception of audiokonverter which at allows you to choose between quality or bitrate based encoding.
The only stand alone program that I could personally recommend is flacon. It has presets and lets you choose between AVR, CBR, and VBR. flacon also has Replay Gain if that's something you're looking for.

I use pacpl. It works for so many formats you may find yourself feeling as though you're in a candy store.
It hasn't failed me yet(knock on wood) .
audiokonverter is rich in content choices but often makes ugly sounding files for me.
pacpl is is the only converter I have found that accurately converts to an mp4 that works on the shuffle.
I haven't tried flacon but I will now. .

soundgonverter is in the repo, note the spelling. It works from your file manager exactly the same as soundconverter. pacpl, suggested by menotu is also a good tool
