Hi,
3 remarks on this, from a Puppy fan:
--------------------------------------------
- On boot try to edit with acpi=off added on boot option line. It solves most of stuckies and HW-aging probs'. Gparted and Testdisk
Cfdisk and even Abiword/Gnumeric can rescue a lot without a fancy desktop where it's too heavy for any reason.
- Another option to add, with something like: pfix(Puppy term)=noram which minimizes RAM consuming to nearly half,
slows but not too slow.
- With an option called like
absolute link try to drop out some hi-consuming programs to a
nearbyFS-folder until you
call them. This is good especially if you boot a tinned base into RAM (as I plan to do soon myself, for a short boot from flash).
I think Jwm with
ROX filer (with relative/absolute link opt') can be awesome as a low-resource test on unknown/broken HW,
and treating systemon root safely and easily as well.
Thanks.
