« on: July 10, 2010, 11:39:57 PM »
Hello this might have been adressed before in the forum, when trying to get to the desktop on the live cd it asked for a user name and password, i did see at the beginning of boot up something about user name >guest and password .root, tried that but didnt work.I may have totally missed something here but log in doesn`t work just amenu to reboot , shut off etc.

You seem to be a bit confused, The user guest has the password guest. The root password is root.  ;D

Both are displayed on the login screen. The newest liveCDs even auto-log the guest user.

Got another 2529 that don't show, from before I left the forum between Sept 8th and Nov 15th 2008. ;D

For your information, as it seems to concern you a bit, when posts are sent to the TZ they don't appear in the users post count. When entire threads are retired to the TZ, the post count of each poster participating in the thread will be reduced by the number on replies he had in that thread. If you'll note, this will be my 6000th post now, as some thread which I posted in once, has recently been retired to the TZ; possibly the World Cup thread, though I don't remember posting to that one at all.

You lost 2529 posts. That's amazing. So you must have closed your membership. Or is there a certain amount of time if you don't come in they delete your membership. In either case you lost more posts than a lot of people will ever get.

As for my post count, I was just curious as to where the posts went. Just having some fun with it.
Thank you for explaining. Tex happened to notice that I mentioned this and he posted me with the same explanation.

I appreciate you taking the time to do that.

That you can remember the number of posts you had is what amazes me   ;D

I 'think' I am on my third lot of post counts, but wouldn't even be sure of that!   ;D ;D

I definitely have no idea how many posts I had racked up.  Don't really want to know either ........   all it proves is I had a lot of time to spare and waffled a lot   ;D ;D

Remember what? I saved them all, before I left, In case I wanted to repost any of the information contained in any of them, anywhere else. It's easier to copy/paste a rather long, detailed set of instructions, then it is to retype the whole thing a second time. The only problem is the post count is reversed, so the first post I made to the forum has the highest post number. (to left of thread location)

While the last post from Sept 08, shows as number 1.

As a side note, in the forum stats, where it shows total time on line, one could also add this.

I thought it might have some use over at Hack.  ;D

Turn out I ended up back here, but with all the stuff that got lost last July. with the forum deletions, I've been able to find the appropriate posts, to answer similar questions. Unfortunately can't use the Quote link as it brings one to the forum, and tries to quote the now missing original thread. Still it's possible to do the screen shot thing, or simply highlight and copy/paste whatever text one wants to transfer.

I too bow to the master pack-rat OP. I thought I was meticulous. Not even in the same league as you. Those are some detailed records.

So let me ask this question about leaving the forum. Not getting personal but in general , if you are away from here for a certain length of time do they delete you or do you have to make the choice to delete yourself.

I've never seen anyone's account deleted without their asking. If one does request that their account be deleted, we usually refuse, then ask why the request was made, or whether it was an accidental selection. If one insists this is what they want, only then do we actually delete the account. We don't like losing friends, and would rather try to fix whatever problem exists that makes them want to leave.
