Well, I contacted Brother Support and was directed here
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/faq_prn.html#f00090I ran the tool and it installed the MFC-490CW printer driver with most of the options available in a windows install. The only thing it didn't do was install the Fax printer driver or the Scanner driver. I have a second email into support on these issues. Its not recognized when I try set up the scanner in PCC.
This tool worked so well that I decided to try it on my Brother HL-5250DN Laser, which was already installed by PrinterDrake but didn't give a lot of the configuration options available with a windows install. Well, the tool did give me back the majority of those options so I deleted the PrinterDrake install entry.
Like I said I'm a Linux newbie so I had to do some reading up on using the terminal and super user but it didnt take long .... reminded me of my MS-DOS command line stuff from waaay back.
Hope this helps some people.
