Install Brother MFC-490CW Network printer in PCLinuxOS

Hi!

Need help for the setup and configuration... I was able to configure printer  thru PCC but it doesn't continue printing... all i can see in the printer display is "receiving data"... but it is stuck in there.. I tried printing using other PC and it does print...

Did you resolve the issues with your Brother MFC-490CW?

Im new to Linux and PCLinuxOS is my first install.  I also have the Brother MFC-490CW and cant configure it.  This model isnt listed in PrinterDrake and I havent found a compatible model in the list.  This printer is an inkjet printer/scanner/copier/fax.  This post is the only one I found when searching.

If anyone can help me install this printer it would be appreciated.

Well, I contacted Brother Support and was directed here http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/faq_prn.html#f00090

I ran the tool and it installed the MFC-490CW printer driver with most of the options available in a windows install.  The only thing it didn't do was install the Fax printer driver or the Scanner driver.  I have a second email into support on these issues.  Its not recognized when I try set up the scanner in PCC.

This tool worked so well that I decided to try it on my Brother HL-5250DN Laser, which was already installed by PrinterDrake but didn't give a lot of the configuration options available with a windows install.  Well, the tool did give me back the majority of those options so I deleted the PrinterDrake install entry.

Like I said I'm a Linux newbie so I had to do some reading up on using the terminal and super user but it didnt take long .... reminded me of my MS-DOS command line stuff from waaay back.

I'm sorry to see you haven't had any of the long-timers to help with this one. Generally, Brother has been one of the worst for Linux support. It is good to see that they provide software to download. I don't have any experience with these. I followed your link. Wow! They really don't want anyone but geeks using their installer. I have never seen anything like it. You've got to cut and paste the bottom part of the screen into a text file, name it installer.sh (your choice!), chmod a+x installer.sh, then run it, ./installer.sh.

Assuming it works, follow the directions. Please, let me know how this turns out.
