Equinox Desktop Environment

and this:

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,75722.0.html

I will try my last chance to learn something and post here my requests. If I am posting again wrong, or nobody wants to help me, tell me, I will then post on LinuxQuestions

--------------------------------------------------------
I want to install EDE (Equinox Desktop Environment) which is a light weight Desktop Environment.
At the moment, its not important which version I install 1.2 (stable) or 2.0 (beta), as long I can try it out.
BUT I NEED YOUR HELP.
I don't know, how, but after days of attempts, I managed to get a dirty installation with some unnecessary stuff installed and even EDE, but don't know if its 1.2 or 2.0. The problem is now, I can only start it from another wm.
If I login in XFCE and then in the temrinal type startede, then it works, but its on top of xfwm4 so not really running pure, how to solve this???
I can still see that the WM used is then XFWM4 and only the DE used is EDE. But I want to use both.
If I look in /usr/bin I can see a file called edewm, which I suppose should do the trick, but it tells me that another WM is already running.

How can I start EDE fully?

Thanks in advance

Let me add, I am doing this on a test machine, so if I break my system, its my problem

BPSoftware,
On their download page, they have install instructions. If you're determined, read them thoroughly before you begin.

Hi, thanks for the answers.

I was following the instructions found here: http://equinox-project.org/wiki/InstallationHowTo2.0b

and am arrived at chapter "Starting EDE"

I create the .xinitrc file as described there, but don't know what to do next.
I cannot find EDE into my sessions menu in GDM. But I can see there the others XFCE, Drak3d,...

Don't know if there's a .desktop file created on installation, if not just copy one from /usr/share/xsessions/ , alter it and drop it back there.

Reading around about EDE it doesn't yet adhere to Freedesktop.org standards. The Desktop has some positive reviews but to me the bad out weighs the good...

Oh and if you use the net install it should place an entry in gdm....

I might try and do this myself in virtual box as a pet project but I highly doubt it would be usable.

It used to be in the mandriva repos, if you can find it that would be an easier way to go. If I remember correctly it was a win98 look alike.
