I believe Dolphin only allows One Column per window.

You could use Konqueror - that allows multi-columns (and top/bottom splits as well)
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

According to Dolphin's Help the behaviour is:
Quote
In the Columns view, multiple levels of the folder structure can be viewed at once. If a subfolder is clicked, a new pane showing the contents of that folder is opened at the right edge of the view.

In fact it is possible, weird thing is: if you change partition it fails  :-\

First picture is the desktop folder, second is another partition

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but there is an option for expandable folders. This opens up another column when you click on a folder to allowing you to see the contents. You can access this setting by clicking on Settings---Configure Dolphin----View Modes----Details---and check the box for expandable folders. Within Dolphin Preferences Arrangement of icons can be changed from columns to rows.  or to have it always open up as split screen.

I can display columns in my home ......  a new column for each directory I click on.

Changing to my Data partition gives the same result.

OrdiDoc wants to see the whole page without scrolling I think.

uncleV you are right on, i would like to see all the icons from the same page with multiple columns, i have looked around the Dolphin's Settings but didn't find any configuration that will do it. If you look at the second picture there is only one column and i can see only a part of the folders i have, with multiple columns i'll probably be able to see all the folders. There is a way to do it and it's by choosing both Columns and Split together but to see the folders that i can't see in the first column i have to scroll down on the second column.

Not really what i'm looking for but it's better than nothing for now :)

I did not find a means to display one directory in multiple columns.

Do you like it this way?

It's the old "Icon view" with grid arranged as columns and not the default rows.

I tried it and it is about what i was looking for, i think i was looking at the wrong way to make it happen but it's what i need. It gives me the opportunity to see all my folders in one view rather than scrolling down all the time.

Thanks uncle V, menotu, crow, JohnBoy and duvid :)
