Can not save any images in Firefox....
« on: July 03, 2010, 05:42:35 AM »
I just discovered today that if I right click on an image and try to save it nothing happens...... I do not get any dialogue or anything. This is happening with Firefox 3.6.6.

Edit: Very strange, I restarted Firefox and it is working again.

All images aren't savable. If you give us a web address we could check it out.

It was the re-done diamond plate PCLinuxOS wallpaper posted on the forum... The save as dialogue is working after closing and restarting Firefox. Hopefully this was just a fluke.  :)

exploder,

This has happened to me several times with Firefox 3.6.4. And for me, the solution has been exactly as you describe ... restart Firefox. It's certainly inconvenient and annoying, to be sure, since it usually happens at the most inappropriate times. It's niggles like this that are driving me to Chromium and Iron, more and more. It's as if the Mozilla folks are getting sloppy (cocky?) with Firefox, and it just doesn't seem to have the stability it once did.

Yup - you hear far more discontent about Firefox than I've heard for many a day.....

And I think because of the feeling of loyalty that lots of people have for Firefox (me included) is one of the reasons why more people haven't jumped ship, but you can only stick with something for so long, 'specially when you weigh the plus/minus etc.

BUT I am hoping they pull a rabbit (or reborn Fox) out of the hat when FF4 comes out.

I suggest removing kmozillahelper then you will get the standard gtk save dialog instead of the kde4 save dialog. It should be noted that some sites disable the ability to save from their pages.

I will give that a try if I keep having problems, thanks! This is very minor considering how well PCLinuxOS 2010 KDE runs.  ;D

I have always used Opera which is extremely fast. I have had nothing but SLOW from Firefox & Konqueror.

Never figured out why tho.

I uninstalled kmozillahelper, no help. I installed Opera, problem solved.Funny I didn't have this problem with my first install of pclos 2010 from a month ago. Then I had to reinstall after I couldn't boot up error code 3.Then I couldn't save images anymore.I am using ksnapshot to save images using firefox for now,I may switch to Opera ,but I like to save videos I guess I could with Opera? Opera does appear to be faster.

I tried to upgrade Firefox, but the error message says there are broken packages.I reloaded the package server heathnet, but still it says cannot upgrade fix broken packages.Sure wish I had the premium server, but I didn't understand the install instructs, and no reply to me for help.I get along farmer style;find work arounds.

That fixed it for me Tex, thanks. For others who are having reoccurring problems with this you could consider 'Save Image in Folder' Add-on. That's what I was using before I read this thread.

Try using a different repo.

I always use, http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/texstar/apt/

don't forget to uncheck heathnet.

Uhm, sixthwheel ...

We are supposed to (have been asked to) use a repository OTHER than ibiblio. The ibiblio repo is the main one, against which all the others must sync. If lots of users are using it, then it slows down the syncs with the other mirrors.

I did'nt get the memo. :-* I'll switch it to another one. I just figured since it has Texstar in the name, it would be the bestest around. ;D
