(my system - KDE3.5.10, PCLOS 2009.1)
You might find what you are looking for in user/share/sounds
KDE_Startup_01.ogg   etc.........
Changes can done under  KDE settings> Sound & Multimedia> KDE System Notifications
(KDE is starting up)

I think its in:

Configure Your Desktop >> Look and Feel >> Desktop >  Notification > System Notifications - Applications Tab

Now you can use the dropdown box to select the app or system you want to modify.

You may need the KDE System Notifications

After selecting it you can choose which function it provides - i.e. choice of sound/music etc

Great timing.  I was driving home and a thought popped into my pointed little head about how I could change the start and exit tunes in KDE.  The info was right there in the forum and fresh (like today)  Great info. and thanks..it works.
