No printer module in Control Center, Cant connect to Cups server

Using a fresh installed version of PCLinux 2010.1

My Printer is HP970CXi (which was automatically detected and setup by cups).
The printer is working, but main issue is I need to print on both sides of
paper.


If I try and print a document from Open Office I can acess a printer setup,
the duplexor is set to on, but only options are off or ignore.
Previously in PCLOS2009.2 option were on , off , print long side or
print short side (or similar).

My problem is I need to reconfigure some printer settings, mainly
change paper size to A4 and set duplexer to on so I can print both sides.


Problem1
There is no printer icon in the PC Linux control center (harddrake)

Problem2
If I open firefox and point it at Cups   http://localhost:631

it tries to open http://www.localhost:631

Both methods were perfect in PCLinuxOS 2009.2

No problem with that here

and also I have PCC - Hardware - Configure printing and scanning

You seem to have a couple of problems with your install ......  you have, I suppose, checked that the required packages are installed?

Concerning Problem 1, I believe you need to have printerdrake installed in order for the printer icon to appear in the Control centre.

Guys, thank you both for your helpful replies.

Is seems that although cups drivers were installed printerdrake was not installed.
Installing printerdrake brought in other depencies and now I have printer drake in
control panel.

Localhost:631 still did not connect, and on inspection found that my /etc/hosts file
did not contain an entry for localhost.

Restoring /etc/hosts allowed my also to configure cups via the web interface,
I have now marked the topic as solved.
