Open Office inport Google Doc?
« on: June 22, 2010, 09:06:59 AM »
Hay I hope some one knows how to fix this I am trying to import/export from Google docs but every time I try I can get the list from google I just cant open from or export to them.

A message pops up with the Java icon in the left most corner saying "error importing file"

Any one know how to fix this so I can have true cloud based documents instead of having to manually download and upload?

Can you be a bit more precise please.

What do you have open? How are you trying to do what you want?

I'm just unsure what steps you are taking.

In google docs I can select and r/click a doc and then choose export and open it directly. in OOWriter

I can do the manually download then manually upload after I make the changes like you say but supposedly Open office supports direct opening

if you go to File>Google Docs & Zoho>Import from Google Docs

I put in my Google ID and pass and can view the files in my Google docs when I click the "get list" but when I try and open for editing or DL something like a progress bar pops up for a nano sec in the lower right hang and then I get the "error importing file" it like it is glitching when it trys to retrieve the document for some reason but do not know why?

Are you using KDE 4?

Is your install completely updated?

I haven't had problems importing Google docs in OO running KDE 4  but OO gives me problems in XFCE
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Gotcha!!

Just tried it and it works fine from oOOwriter.

What java version do you have installed?  You could check it its enabled in oOO > Tools > Options > Java.

I have version 1.6.0_20

I just logged into Writer (as root) and went to Tools >> Extension Manager > and checked for updates and there is one for gdocs to 2.2.0 so you may want to give that a go.

I updated mine and the only difference I could see what a small floating toolbar for import/export to both Google and Zoho.

Just a thought - you've double checked your login and password are okay for exporting etc?

Try doing an import or export as root to see whether that does anything

No go as root and I am sure I typed my pass right as I can get the list of files from Google, I just can not open them.

I did that update and just ran update this afternoon for PClin.

And tried from the root account no go all around only dif after update it I see the bar in the lower right corner go across before I get the error. And now the error gives a URL from docs.google?

I really at a loss? is there something I need to tweak google side or here?

I noticed that the plug in says needs Needs Java 5+ to work

http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/project/ooo2gd

dose that mean 1.6.0_20 wont work as that is the lates ver in PCLin I gessing that is not the problem since Crow can run it.

I hope some knows how to get this working

.....

I think I might have found the problem but have no clue how to fix it?

when I DL from the Google web I get a UL like this

https://docs.google.com/document/export?format=odt&id=(somelong @## ID)&hl=en

when the plug in trys to DL and fails to do so it says

Error importing file
https://docs.google.com/document/feeds/download/documents/Export?docID=(somelong @## ID)&?format=odt

the ID is the same but the format and path of the URL is entirely different. I think this might be the cause but is there a way to fix it?
