Very odd,

when inserting a movie DVD+r on this fully updated Zen mini 2010 then nothing happens (besides 'unaligned transfer' messages from dmesg). By coincidence I have VMWare running, also with a fully updated Zen mini 2010 (and a lot additional packages), and here the dvd is recognized and plays well  :o

I've tried to compare the packages in the two systems, but all seems fine,

any help appreciated :-)

cheers,
MBantz

Could this be any helpfull?

Is the sr0 device created?

Check the /etc/modprobe* files for their content on the system with media working like livecd... and then on the not working one.

Siamer says:

"Please ask MBantz did he setup any application to be binded with dvd insertion? For example when VideoDVD is inserted SMPlayer starts... Empty dvd triggers Brasero... Stuff like that. In ZenMini You have to set this stuff Yourself. Applications are not there so all You can do is go to Menu > System > Settings > Preffered Applications or something similiar..."

He may be right ;).

And what happens if the VM is shut down? If the VM is claiming the DVD reader, the host can't also claim it, at the same time.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

Doh! Me noob! You are of course spot on O-P :-) Thanks! Unmounting the drive in VMWare made it appear on the host,

thanks,
