Synaptic symptoms

I have been a little too playful.. not sure how I made this install into such a mess but to start with Synaptic:

ERROR ONE:

Code: [Select]
Could not download all repository indexes

The repository might be no longer available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and the correct writing of the repository address in the preferences.

and then

Code: [Select]
E: Vendor block FingerPrint is invalid
E: Vendor block Name is invalid
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.

I believe this started after I ran aptitude with root in CL.

Most likely you caught the repo mirror while it was syncing. When that happens just wait a while... hour should be enough... or chose a different repo mirror. Hit Reload again, and if no errors are reported, Mark all Upgrades, then Apply and Apply again, from the confirmation window. If you get the same type errors from the second mirror, try a third. They all sync at different times and at different intervals, so it's unlikely you'll have to try many to find one that isn't syncing at the moment.
