rtl8192se no go
« on: June 23, 2010, 06:48:46 AM »
Hi all .. have this wireless card in a co-workers toshiba laptop ...pclos see's it but it won't connect to any networks ... I've tried re-installing the 8192 dkms and firmware still no go .. I can't find a windows driver that will work with ndiswrapper ... always says ndis interface not found ... after messing with this for 2 days I'm gonna recommend a wireless USB adapter as I can't even locate a repair manual so I could swap out the original wireless card with an intel unit ... any suggestions for a USB wireless adapter that is KNOWN to work with pclos?  I'm looking at a belkin f5d9050 as I have seen this work with other distros .... but I'm looking for suggestions ... I'd like a small (jump drive) size unit ...

My rtl8192se did work in the live-cd (PCLOS 2010.1), but after some updates it never did work again.....

With PCLOS2007/9, I downloaded other drivers from the internet (the drivers delivered with the laptop didn't work), and then it DID work with Ndiswrapper (I don't know what about the latest Ndiswrapper)
I only use it when I'm on school (now vacation until September), so I can't test it anymore now (I wanted to try it again in September, and if it failed post it in the forum, because then I can test if it's working or not)......

I think I deleted them  :(
=> if you search on the internet, you can find the right WIN2K driver needed for this wifi-card I think

(If I find it back, I'll let it know here)

If someone have a suggestion about the rtl8192se, it's really appreciated - maybe also for E.M.G. (and I can test it next Tuesday the last time before September I guess)
When I'm online with my laptop, I can give the needed (log)-files... (or do I have to make a different thread for me, maybe I have to  ::) )

I have a similar card, that works reliably for me with ndiswrapper. I don't remember the exact circumstances, but one time that I was setting it up I got the message, ndis interface not found. I just logged in as root, typed 'modprobe ndiswrapper' and then went back into PCC and tried again and it worked.

Thanks,

I'll try to install ndiswrapper again on my laptop, and try your tip with the native drivers of the manufacturer of my laptop.....
Else I have to find back the other drivers I had in the past.....
(and I know it has to work.... only it  :P feeled  :P like it was more stable with the live-cd (and the rtl8192se driver from the repo's)

@ E.M.G. I don't have any useful experience about USB-wifi-devices... sorry, maybe someone else..., or look at what bicol_willem has suggested

Thanks to everyone that replied ... I'm going with a belkin f5d7090 usb adapter ... I give up on the native 8192 driver ... hopefully in time ...  :)
