File manager E17 (Solved)
« on: June 20, 2010, 05:00:55 PM »
Hello, this may be a silly question but I can not seem to figure it out.  How can I set the default file manager in E17 to open document, pdf etc automatically, everytime I try to open something I get the open with options.  Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Jason

E17 should remember the choice you make in the 'open with' window.

It doesn't, you can try to make it remember but doesn't work  :-\

Open PCManFM, right click on a file, in the down part, choose "other", choose your application, *tick on : always use this application* : click ok. Next time it should open with the chosen application.

jasmac,

In order to do as Melodie suggests, you need to install PCManFM from Synaptic, I think. If it's installed already, you can find it in the e17 menu in Applications > File Tools. If you have places module showing on your desktop, you can right-click one of the drives, and use a different file manager than efm, the default one for e17. I'm using xfe file manager, but you can use PCManFM, or most any other.

Hey all, thanks heaps for all your help and advice.  Djohnston I used your suggestion, I installed thunar and as I use the places gadget in my panel I changed to file manger to thunar in there, which is an option under configuration, my blind eyes just never registered it.  Again thanks heaps, another problem solved.

Cheers
