SAT-TV require help
« on: June 20, 2010, 04:38:12 PM »
Hi there all - really bugs me that I am stumped with getting any results at all with the installation and running of any of my TV Satellite cards here on PCLinux (both 2009.2 and 2010)

I have a number of cards that I have tried, have no problems with Analog Terrestrial cards but the service here is abominable, but just don't seem to be able to get my various Satellite cards to work.
They all work great under MSXP although the one that I thought would be the most promising (Nova-S Plus) was a real let down even under Windows so have chucked that into storage.
I have been trawling the boards with hope that I can find some reference to work with but am stumped.
I am currently working with a VisionPlus 1020A Sat card with works really well under XP - BDA drvs
This is meant to be a Twinhan clone ?? and shows up in PCC Hardware as TV Card > bt878 Audio Capture & bt878 Video Capture
lsmod shows the following ......

if I call dvbtune as per thus.....
dvbtune -f 12483000 -s 25500 -p h -m -tone 0  ( --- these are the correct settings I believe)
Using DVB card "DST DVB-S"
tuning DVB-S to L-Band:0, Pol:H Srate=25500000, 22kHz=off   ( --- not sure about this L-Band:0 ?)
polling....
Getting frontend event
FE_STATUS:

it just keeps polling for ever?? (like hours)

I believe the ref to cx88xx has come about from trying to use a NovaS card??

If I open Kaffeine it shows up but when I select a Satellite (Optus) it scans but obtains no results.
I have created another Satellite file (OptusD2) with only the one particular frequency data but same results.

Can anyone help me out here? (Please-don't suggest MythTV - I just want to watch TV - not go to another planet)
With thanks.

EDIT>  Have got a little further thus...
[root@PCLos2010 hawkeye]# dvbtune -f 1183000 -s 22500 -p h -m -tone 0

I had to subtract the LBN's Lo (11300) from the Sat freq (12483000) = 1183000
that got a lock
Then thus....
[root@PCLos2010 hawkeye]# scandvb -c -U
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'

Done.

That scanned and found the channels (well some anyway) -- better that none  ;D

Then I killed the tuner thus....
[root@PCLos2010 hawkeye]# kill pid 3261
bash: kill: pid: arguments must be process or job IDs
[1]+  Terminated              dvbtune

Then I tried to pass the stream to MPlayer ...
[root@PCLos2010 hawkeye]# dvbstream -f 1183 -s 22500 -p h -o 512 650 | mplayer

So - Phew  :o
Looks promising - hopefully bye bye MS  ;D
Just got to figure out the viewing end of things....

Any thoughts appreciated of course.
