I need some help with network (smb) access.
« on: June 20, 2010, 12:59:01 AM »
Hi all, I installed the LXDE version of PCL on my little Dell D420 laptop (1.2g Core2Duo / 2 gig / 30 gig) and I love it. I've added VirtualBox so I can run XP for my accounting software and it works a treat.

Now I'm used to Dolphin (which does not appear in a synaptic search) for access to my home server (FreeNAS), wifes Mac, daughters Linux laptop etc. I see that LXDE has both PCMan and Thunar but stupid here can't work out how to find my home network using either (I'd actually love to have Dolphin :-))

Any help appreciated.

Rod,
You want Dolphin? It is part of the kdebase4 package. Often apps are a part of a "base" package that may contain many apps. When you can't find something that you know should be there, use the "Provided Packages" search option in Synaptic.

Hi Neal, thank you for your reply. Is there no way to browse a local network using either PCMan or Thunar? Or do I need to install Dolphin?

Cheers

Have you configured your network via PCC > Network Sharing? Do you have Samba configured? Thunar-shares and thunar-shares-plugin is available in the repos.
