Unfortunately, the U3 on the San Disk is a pain in the rear.

Pretty much I think it can only be done right with it's own uninstaller. Don't know why. One that I deleted the files was unable to be used to make a live USB. The one I am using as I write this  was made after I did the uninstall with the U3's own software.

Strange thing is it not? ??? ??? ??? ???
There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity, between science& superstition,& it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call PCLINUXOS!

I'm not sure I even tried, that was months ago, and the stick didn't cost me money : a gift from my ISP for having been long their client. ^^

"Even months later we still don't know if anybody has had success with dd content on one of those sticks"   ;D ;D

In case the procedure damaged the stick it would be nice if it was your strawberry and not my $100 stick (I am not going to try  ;D)

thanks anyway Melodie

That's for an expensive usb pendrive ! Is it made out of gold with precious stones decorating it ? ;D

dd would not damage your stick I think, but either erase it's whole content, or just give up on try. I believe I might have tried dd and failed, but I don't remember the details. dd does a bit-to-bit copy from source to destination, therefore erases anything that may have been previously to destination.

If you want to multiboot with pendrive, or have one that boots and the rest of the space for your data, then you don't want to use dd for this purpose, anyway.

/if your 100$  USB media is not covered of gold with diamonds and emeralds on it, tell me where not to buy one for this price ! (just joking ! :D )
