What is Giant file in Dropbox?
« on: June 16, 2010, 05:00:12 PM »
I have just killed the dropbox application on my computer, because it was downloading a single file which at 53KB/s was going to take another four hours to download.

What single file could possibly be that big - about a GB? Surely no one's putting an ISO in dropbox?

I presume the person responsible is a packager (hence posting the question here), because that's who uses dropbox, but there's a need to be reasonable about bandwidth, and I don't think anyone should expect to initiate that size of download on another's computer without their knowledge.

A related issue is that I presume Tex will incur penalties if his dropbox exceeds the 2GB size limit. It would only take 2 files of that size do do that.

I have checked twitter but can't see anything there, and there are no obvious subjects jumping out at me from the packagers' section, so can anyone tell me what it is, please?

Open dropbox again. Right click on the dropbox in tray and choose Launch dropbox site from menu. This will open firefox with dropbox account. Kill dropbox app from tray. Check the firefox for dropbox files snd see which is the one that causes the trouble.

Regards.

Thanks. I suppose the good thing is we're getting some 'good' games for those who enjoy them. But the bloat...

Maybe the repo hosts need to order in a few more HDDs.
