SOLVED - Digikam won't start...
« on: June 16, 2010, 09:39:00 AM »
Upgraded to digikam 1.3.0 but now it won't start.

When I start it from a console I get:

[me@localhost ~]$ digikam
QSqlDatabasePrivate::removeDatabase: connection 'ConnectionTest' is still in use, all queries will cease to work.
digikam: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libdigikamcore.so.1: undefined symbol: _ZN11KDcrawIface19RawDecodingSettingsaSERKS0_

Any ideas...??

Seeming to think it might be nepomuk/akonadi problem stuff happening here...

Thanks.

D.

As you've just upgraded, it may be worth trying to restart your desktop (I like trying the simple things first  ;D )
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Restart, reboot...  Done it all...  (Even made sure the computer was plugged in...  ;-)

I have the same problem with Digikam. I start it up from the menu and it looks like it is starting normally then it hangs.
When I try to start digikam in konsole I get the following:

[n8xk@localhost ~]$ digikam
QSqlDatabasePrivate::removeDatabase: connection 'ConnectionTest' is still in use, all queries will cease to work.

When I check whats running in konsole with "top" it shows digikam is using a big percentage of CPU.

I completely removed and reinstalled it with no luck.

It worked fine until today, when box came up to ask me to name the location of my photos because the location had changed.

There were three choices, I was trying to direct it to a second hard drive where I have all my photos stored. I didn't get a chance to type in the location because when I made that choice, that is when digikam crashed and hung up.

Tells me it can't find the location of my fotos, which didn't change at all

From there on, you can touch any button in the drop down lists, it just crashes

Executable: digikam PID: 4903 Signal: 11 (Segmentation fault)

Xena, I believe you may be correct in that it is looking for photos. I may have inadvertently directed it to look for photos in the wrong place.
That would explain the high % of CPU usage.

However I don't know how to stop the process and get digikam to open so I can change the settings.

Remove the digikam stuff /home/yourname/.kde4 folder. There is a digikam folder in apps and a digikamrc file in the config folder.

I deleted the digikamrc file and then restarted digikam. The set up box appeared as if I were starting it for the first time, when it finished the digikam window came up saying "scanning images in individual albums" this is where it hangs up.
I let it run for about 4 hours and it never moved beyond that point.

Logged in as Root and started Digikam for the first time and all seams to be working properly. There is something on my home account it doesn't like.

Check the permissions on your folders in your home account. You can always do in a terminal su to root

[texstar@localhost ~]$ su
Password:
[root@localhost texstar]# chown -R texstar:texstar /home/texstar

I ran chown -R as su in terminal and nothing seemed to happen.
I logged in as Root from the main log in screen again, started digikam and got the following dialog box:

This is the same box I saw before digikam crashed on my home account. I chose the first option,(bad choice!).
This time in root I chose do nothing and then the second box came up, I chose do nothing again and digikam started as normal but I could not access any photos.

I didn't change the location of my photos so I don't know why it was asking me where they were moved.
Except for a few pictures I am currently working on, I keep all my photos on a second internal hard drive.
