First make sure from within Firefox settings that it is set to the default browser from Edit>Preferences>Advanced tab system defaults.

From within Thunderbird go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Config Editor tab.
Scroll down the list and find these three lines:-
network.protocol-handler.app.ftp;/usr/lib/thunderbird-3.0.4/open-browser.sh
network.protocol-handler.app.http;/usr/lib/thunderbird-3.0.4/open-browser.sh
network.protocol-handler.app.https;/usr/lib/thunderbird-3.0.4/open-browser.sh

Check to see what you have, they can be modified by right clicking on each link but mine are setup like this and open Links in Firefox from Thunderbird.

Don't forget these.......

Firefox > Edit > Preferences > Advanced > System Defaults > mark "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup" > OK

Thunderbird > Edit > Preferences > Advanced > System integration > mark "Always check to see if Thunderbird is the default mail client on startup" > OK

I did........... ;)

Thanks AndrzejL I just had to do that too.

But why is it necessary to do this every time I update Thunderbird?   Cannot the updates be configured so that they pick up one's preferences from the previous version?  They seem to pick up everything else!
How does one become a hero?  By asking a lot of dumb questions apparently! I have three computers of various ages, the most powerful is a Dell Netbook 10v; each has 2 or 3 versions of PCLOS of various vintages.  Location, St John's, Newfoundland.

Cool beans ;)!

I know now that at least one person is searching the forum for answers :D LOL... sorry couldn't help it :D!

About the second part the answer is I don't know. I don't think You will have to do it every time You upgrade. I haven't done it for a long while anyway. I had to redo it on one of my puters for some reason a while back BUT I think I was the one to blame ;).

I always try to search the forum before posting, although it isn't always easy to guess the right key words, especially as phrases (as in Google advanced) or Boolean operators are not allowed.

I just updated both FF and TB and had to fiddle around as usual.  Also the method I find seems to be different each time - sometimes because of Mozilla changes, and because there's more than one way to kill this particular cat.  Still, it's done for now.

I wonder if the new flash version will still crash after 6+ hours - tell you tomorrow!

network.protocol-handler.app.http;/usr/bin/firefox
network.protocol-handler.app.https;mozffremote

network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http;true
network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https;true

Using 2010.7 kde
