Go to Control Center, (that's the one with the blue circle around the screwdriver and wrench) click on "network-Internet, then "Network center"..Is there anything there?

It is not listed there: Menu>More Applications>Monitoring : All that is listed is: KDiskFree and KwickDisk and Systeminfos

Yes ! Both the wired Ethernet and the GPRS/Edge/3G connections are listed.
I don't have a problem accessing the internet - the only thing that is missing is the internet monitor Icon in the system tray.

If you right click on the sys tray, then click system tray settings, then "Auto Hide" , is there an option for the net applet?

I created a new user and the net_applet is in the system tray, I just wonder what happened and why it can't be restored in my original
user account ?

No, never did find the solution - Just created a new user account and gave the new user
permission to access all of the files for the original user account.

Anyway, that is how I got the net_applet back into the system tray !

Hope you have better luck than I did  ;D

log in with the account that doesnt show the icon and then open the terminal and type "net_applet"

The icon should now show up on the tray area or you will get a reason why it doesnt if it doesnt. If it does show up, then all you will have to do is set the application to start at log in.

That worked - logged in to the user account where the net_applet was missing
Opened a Terminal and typed "net_applet --force" and the network monitor appeared in the
system tray.

Right clicked on the applet and under settings > always launch on startup
