Latest Update not so smooth
« on: June 11, 2010, 01:08:19 AM »
:'(Help!  I have performed the latest update through Synaptic.  Now my desktop (KDE) is completely different from what I had, and when I click on any icon, I get the script pop up in kwrite.  Does anyone know how to fix?  I can't get my CDROM to boot first so I can't get the ISO to run to reinstall.

PLEASE HELPPPP>>>>>>!!!!!

Did you try logging out and log back again or a re-boot?

Hi jeff359w,
Welcome to the forum!

What PCLOS version are you updating?

edit: If you are installing an older version than 2010.1, then updating will break your install.

To get the CD to boot first you need to change the boot order in your bios. To get into bios you need to press F2 or some other key (watch the screen when you are booting to see which key needs to be pressed).

Then you look for the section in bios which deals with boot order and change it so that CD boots before your HD or floppy.

You can change back later if you wish to. I leave it with CD booting first - the few milliseconds at adds to the boot time is of no concern.

My apologies if you already know this. ;D
