Solved---ATI 4850 issues
« on: June 10, 2010, 10:30:26 PM »
Hi,
I just installed PCLinuxOS on my husbands machine. It has an ATI 4850 Radeon Card. When I installed the os(dual boot with win xp) it showed in the hardware configuration that the 2xxx and above driver was being used but grapgics were choppy and slow. I ran the configuration again and chose the same driver and went through the process. I tried to test and screen went black. I restarted the comp and the boot screen went black to a command prompt. I am new to linux and don't know much so I reinstalled PCLOS. Catalyst Coontrol Center does not open. I have downloaded drivers from ati both the 10.5 and the 9.8 as I read that the older drivers work better but have no clue how to install them. Can someone please help?

Thanks,

Penny

hi
have you installed Catalyst Control Center yet or is it coming up with a error when you try and run it?

Well it looks like I solved my problem. I tried the xorg drivers and the system went black. When I rebooted to the black login screen I used XFdrake and configured the graphics there. I don't know why it didn't configure correctly from the pcc but now my video problems are over. I just wish I would have known this two weeks ago.

Just glad it works now.

I really love PClinuxOS and will recommend it to everyone.

Thanks,

Penny
