How can I change the permissions of the 'Firefox' icon on my desktop from root? When I right click on it to delete it,the option is greyed out.

Open File Manager Superuser Mode (lxdecc - System tab), go to /home/<you>/Desktop (<you>= your user name), right click the icon, click Properties, click Permissions tab, change owner name (2 places), click OK and exit the file manager.
