Clean up your /tmp directory and run bleachbit and bleachbit-root before trying again.

Too large a file is being created but how do I prevent this from happening?  I've tried -and think I did- follow the how-to by the letter yet I'm not successful  When I saw the size of the file I knew that was where the problem lies but I'm not knowledgeable enough to fix it.  Thanks.

You must reduce the size, either by excluding about 1 GB of files or by removing about 1 GB of files.

Ok.  I understand that but the part that puzzles me is that I'm trying to reduce only 7GB of files into less than 4.  My / partition is 33GB and I have 27GB free.  Are you stating that 6GB can't be compressed to 4?  This is a fresh install of PCLOS just done Sunday.  I'm trying to understand why suddenly I can't create a 4GB file out of a smaller install than a much larger one from which I created a little over a month ago.  This just doesn't compute.  Thanks.

Some files do not compress well. The more of this type you have, the less you can compress. System files will compress fine.

Correct.  I'm very aware of this but again looking back at early July when I created a live dvd iso of a May 2010 installation of PCLOS which had a far higher number of apps - mostly the same apps as now - this should work.   To be entirely accurate I have 27.7GB free on a 33GB / partition.  This is just a hair over 5GB.  If PCLOS only uses 4GB on an average install then surely I should be able to get a 4GB ISO from 5.   ???  My previous iso was 1.9GB created out of PCLOS2010.7KDE.  Unfortunately this iso was corrupted with(from) Mandriva and was unusable but it worked perfectly when I created it and my files were all there as were 3 user accounts.  I want to give you as much information as possible so that you will have a clear understanding why I'm confused.  Thanks.

I just tried again using a different user account in hopes that that would work but got the same result.  There are 755 files and 134 sub-folders. Is there anything else I could try that might work?  Or else simply forget the whole process once and for all?  I simply have no explanation why it worked a month ago on a different install but not now.  Thanks for your time and input.

Yes, that's my root.  Home is already backed up on a separate HDD and there is no need to back that up.  Personal files are completely safe therefore all I need is /.  I do not wish to make a live cd of /home as I know that there is no way it will fit/compress to a dvd.  There was the presumption that all I was remastering was /.  If this is incorrect then therein lies the problem.  All I need is /.  Thanks for the reply.
