You can install gparted and use that for such tasks. There are more options but this one is really easy. Watch you pick the right drive! (recognizable i.e. at the size of the drive)

partition-management == includes formatting  ???
Or do I view that wrong  :-[ ?
=> I think (not 100% sure) that you also can manage it via PCC (PCLinuxOS Control Center) (blue circle with the tools in it - you can find it in your panel)

What formatting do you like on your USB
: FAT32, EXT4, EXT3, NTFS, ...?
=> do you need to use it on Windows...? Then I think the most safe option is formatting it under that Windows (using its own format then.....), but normally it can also be done under PCLinuxOS

If there's something you don't understand, ask it  :)

figured it out. a you tube showed me how to use the program to do it. also found an external program that will easily format a usb. wish there was something in repository that does it easily like windows.  a few steps needed in gparted, but I understand it now. Thanks everyone.  Steps are unmount, find device, new partition, choose fat 32, apply and it is done. Just be very careful that you have picked what you want. u don't want to wipe out your hard drive.

Wrong mate. Unmount the drive or partion(s) and right click on the partition seen in gparted, look at the menu and find "format to". There you got options to format to many a file system.

I put the usb stick into a port, go to Config Your Computer, Local disks, Manage disk Partitions, click on the correct tab, toggle to expert mode, click on type, then on "W95 FAT32 (LBA).. and then format it.

This way it can be read by Linux, Win, or Mac... :)
