Hello All,

As per the subject of this post, Arora crashes when I go to a site with Flash media.  If I avoid flash-based media, I can successfully browse.  But the flash brings a crash.

I can even see the youtube homepage, but when I click a vid... Arora disappears.

Bizarre thing is I have 2 computers with PCLOS 2010 on them, and the other one doesn't have arora crashes.  Only thing different is this one has VirtualBox PUEL installed.

CORRECTION:  From the LiveCD it seems as though it didn't crash (arora/rekonq) but when installed onto HDD, the same flash crashes occur on both computers.

Any ideas??

Thanks.

D.

PS - Rekonq is doing the same thing now.

Are you fully updated?
Video card / driver? (VirtualBox has it's own virtualized video, so that may mitigate driver issue?)
???

Yup, fully updated...

Would v-box cause conflict in the host os when v-box isn't even running??  I know it does some alteration to the kernel, but I didn't think it would change anything with the host video drivers.

I didn't mean to imply that.  I meant that inside VBox, a different video "card" / driver are being used.
What is the video on your host?

What is the video on your host?

2 different computers, both AMD processors, one has GeForce graphics and one has ATI.  Both have the proprietary drivers installed, and both exhibit 100% excellent graphics with no problems.

I'm not sure what to suggest.
???

I don't have access to any non-intel video, at this time, so I can't test that theory.  Sorry.

I can try installing Arora, I suppose.  Have you tried alternative browsers, such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera, etc?
Looking in Synaptic, both Arora and Rekonq appear to be "lightweight" browsers.  Maybe this has some bearing?  I'll install and test them.  Do you have a particular site to test against?

I think there have been quite a few posts on the KDE site reporting rekonq/arora crashes when using, but not limited to, flash.

So, this may not be a PCLOS issue?

It doesn't appear to be - other OS's seem to be having problems as well.

I tried youtube.  See above posts.

This is apparently (possibly?) an upstream issue (see menotu's posts).

What to do, now ???

Bug reports seem to be the only thing left...  ;-)

I guess I'll have to stick with trusted firefox for now.  (Although I really like the performance of the other little browsers.)

I'll open up a VBox VM and install and test as well for you.

Edit: Installed both Arora and Rekonq and both crashed when trying to open youtube.com - didn't even open the site.

So I installed them on my main desktop and same thing happens.

Sorry chaps - can't offer any real advice, although some sites suggest going to an earlier version of flash.

At least its fairly easy to report bugs as Rekonqs fav page links directly to the Reqonq site  ;)

Arora and Rekonq both use QTWebKit and QTWebKit crashes with Flash 10.1. We will have to wait for a fix from the QTWebKit developers I suspect.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.
