I thought OGMRip was only a DVD ripper. When I open it it only gives me the option to rip a DVD, open a DVD structure or select an iso. I can't see where it would convert an avi to M4v.

After you have loaded the DVD by clicking 'Load'..
At the bottom right click 'Extract'. Then a window will pop up. Choose the profile you want from the drop down list.
I can't remember if OGMRip comes with the iPhone profile. You can get any additional profiles you want/don't have from their website:
http://ogmrip.sourceforge.net/en/profiles.html

If you don't have "Apple iPhone" in your list of profiles just download the profile from the link I've provided and import it..
In OGMRip at the top click 'Edit' -> 'Profiles'. Then click the 'Import' button.
Then import the .xml file you downloaded.

You are probably missing liba52-0.7.4.so, can't seem to find it in the repo either.

This is excellent! If I get this working I will be able to eliminate a step to the iPod. Thanks.

I believe you are totally correct. Do you know how I can get it and where I would put it or should I request it be added to the repo and be patient (which would seem to benefit all).

Request is the best and easiest way to go.

MMC update is version 1.6.0. Previous version is 1.5.0.

Solution/workaround: SHORT ANSWER Replace mmc executable ver 1.6.0 with 1.5.0
It works, have done it on two desktop systems running 2010.1 (actually my netbook still has 2010 beta so I don't update so 1.5.0 remains)

Get 1.5.0 from these repos and extract the mmc file and replace it in /opt/mmc then mmc works and encodes as you'd expect ...

http://kde3.pclosusers.com/pclosfiles/pclinuxos/2007/RPMS.extra/
has
mmc-1.5.0-1pclos2009.i586.rpm

You'd have to deal with the .rpm somehow to extract mmc. I copied mmc 1.5.0 from netbook install to USB disk to desktop, that was easy.

The original product is at
http://www.miksoft.net/products/
[   ] mmc_1.5.0_i386.deb      25-Aug-2009 16:31   3.9M
[   ] mmc_1.6.0_i386.deb      08-May-2010 08:02   9.0M

Yesterday on 2nd fix on work PC I downloaded the 1.5.0 deb, opened with Ark, extracted mmc executable and replaced mmc 1.6.0 (after renaming to keep it there because mmc 1.6.0 offers more conversion options so it's worth chasing the missing liba52-0.7.4.so file to enable mmc 1.6.0 to do its thing !!) with it.

BTW mmc 1.5.0 is 5.6MB and mmc 1.6.0 is 5.1MB, easy to differentiate.

I tried post suggestion to use WinFF instead but mmc is so much easier, so persevere to get it going again !

Thanks. I fortunately have my PCLOS 2009 on an external hard drive so was able to get the working MMC from there. I just overwrote the 2010 version and it seems to be working great. I wouldn't say it's an elegant solution but it IS a solution (for now).

(maybe loudog or a mod could mark it solved? - I didn't start the thread)
