I've recently updated VirtualBox to their 3.2.2 release. PCLinuxOS supplies the 3.1.8 version in their repository. I wonder if I've caused problems when I did a recent update via Synaptic (reload, mark upgrades, apply) and the distribution supplied version of VBox (OSE version, I'm guessing) gets updated.

Should I remove the 3.1.8 version from my system? If I see updates to VBox (a newer version), should I install them or uncheck them in Synaptic so they don't get downloaded?

Leave it on your system,
3.2.4 has just been released and like 3.2.0 and 3.2.2
has problems adressing usb devices.
3.1.8 works fine though.
Tex & others are working on it.
          Cheers, Hoos.

I agree. I can't get PCLinuxOS to boot on 3.2.4. My existing vdi's work but not a fresh install.

I can get the LiveCD to run and install but then boots to a "white screen" which I've only ever seen when problems occur with Guest Additions.

Gonna give another whirl today

Edit: Just installed PCLinuxOS 2010.1KDE on 3.2.4. and it seems to be okay (though no Guest Addy used as yet)

Edit2: Installed the Guest Additions and I could boot to the desktop okay but the guest functions weren't working properly. I then removed the one pre-installed in 2010 using Synaptic and then used Tex's script to install VBox inside the guest. Rebooted and then run the Guest Additions install and all works fine now. Screen resizes as it should etc. Alas USB still not working;

I can get any ISO to boot in VirtualBox 3.2.4. I can run the installer on the livecd. Everything installs fine but the install will not boot. I've tried various PCLinuxOS ISOS and a few other distributions and not of them will boot. It think there is something way wrong with VirtualBox 3.2.4.

I installed Virtualbox 3.2.4 via getvirtualbox, then installed PCLinuxOS 2010 on it, worked fine BUT no luck with USB.

Have you rebooted your host computer yet? If not please do so. Here is PCLinuxOS running in VBox on a PCLinuxOS host computer with usb working and my usbdisk mounted in Dolphin. One other thing is you need to run getvirtualbox-3.2.4-2pclos2010 as it pulls in a required dependency for libpython2.5-devel which is needed for python bindings for usb support.

Just a follow up. I had to switch my vdi to IDE instead of SATA and all is working now.

I've been watching this, after learning the hard way about the different flavors of VB.

I would like to get my SBIG st-2000xcm astronomy camera running on PCLinux. A bit over a year ago I tried, but ended up waiting for 2010.

Now I have become a maintainer in WINE, and want to work with VB PUEL in order to wean off XP before it becomes unsupported.

I have lost many hairs trying to figure out the USB problems in both systems.

At one time SBIG was big into Linux, but the guy died who was doing all the work.

The older Linux code seems to complain about a lot of things when trying to run it here, which is understandable, I have sacrificial boxes to try rpm's, compiling, and stuff, keeping my good boxes pristine with 2010 and synaptic only.

I set the usb to this user, plopped all kinds of junk in firmware files, and no go. I am extremely inexperienced in coding, it just does not look like the Motorola 6800 I learned on javascript:void(0);

So I watch with worm breath and hope the 'get virtualbox' stuff comes out ok.

And thanks for doing this before I got a chance to call for help.

No stuff in testing? I was hoping to see some stuff on the PASS server.

My system is i7 intel motherboard, sata drives, usb external drive, 22" monitor, ipod, 12 GB memory.

The getvirtualbox script worked like a charm.  No glitches.  At first the USB devices showed, but were grayed out.  A reboot of the host system fixed this.  Found out that you cannot both attach an external usb drive and try to access it as a shared folder.  Had to detach it before Windows 7 explorer would see it.
