Powering up KDE4 with kio-locate

You can find information and links about kio-locate here for those unfamiliar with it.

Here are a couple tips for using kio-locate in your KDE File Manager...

To get to this hidden configuration window

just type locater:config into the location bar of Konqueror or Dolphin.

To make it your default search engine in Konqueror go to Settings -> Configure Konqueror...
Then click 'Web Shortcuts'. At the top make sure 'Enable Web shortcuts' is checked.
Then scroll down the list and check the box for 'locate - Search for local files'.
Then near the bottom where it says 'Default search engine:' choose 'locate - Search for local files' and click 'Apply'.

Now you can search for anything on your computer simply by typing a word into the location bar of Konqueror.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
