< Solved> Canon IP3000
« on: June 04, 2010, 09:25:54 PM »
Hi to all,
This printer is setup by Mandriva 2010 with no problems, but PCLinuxos 2010 does not find it.
I would much like to be  rid of Mandriva 2010 as I do have some other problems with it but not with this printer.
How can I get this printer recognised by PCLos 2010?

When you say it's not found or recognized, can you be more specific? Are you trying to set it up in the PCLinuxOS Control Center? What steps do you take to try to set it up?

Hi djohnston,
Thanks for coming back.
Yes I have tried to find it in the Control center but adding printer does not give me any options other the adding my HP printers.
These printers are already added.
When on my Mandriva 2010 Server a message pops us saying it has found the IP3000 and is configuring it. I can then print Documents or DVD's on it.
The only reason I put Mandriva on the server is because it was 64 bit and used all 8GB of ram.
Now that PCLinuxOS has the PAE kernel I was thinking of putting that on but no Canon printer in PCLinuxOS means no go.
I can find no way in the Control Center to add the Canon printer.
Any thoughts you may have will be greatfully received.

Looking at the Canon printers, I see a PIXMA iP3000. Is that the same? If so, set it up manually.

Turn the printer on. From the PCC, select Hardware > Set up the printer(s). My printer, (not a Canon), is already set up, so you may get extra dialog boxes. In any case, you're going to click the Add a Printer button. Click Next. Tick Manual configuration and click Next. Open up the CANON list and scroll down to PIXMA iP3000 and select it. Click Next, etc. Then see if you can print a test page.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi  to all,
1...I have done a complete reinstall of 2010.1
2...The Canon Pixma ip3000 was found whilst the CD was booting. It was also configured.
3....On Mounting my server to get at some pictures I then tried to print to the Canon.
4....No Go..the printer did not respond!!!
5....I then replaced the printer on the server (this runs 64bit Mandriva 2010) and checking for printer again and giving the server address to the system it found the   Canon on the server, but did not print out to it.
6....I then switched to the Mandriva 2010 server and tried to print the same picture..it did so. I then tried to print on a DVD and it did so.
7....Now 2009.2 did work with the network printer and when the printer was connected locally BUT 2010.1 does not.
8....Conclusion...there must be something wrong with the implementation of CUPS on 2010.1
9....No PCLos 2010.1 WS can print to the Canon printer either networked or local.
10... Can anyone please verify this? Then let me know how to solve this problem.
11...Until that time My server stays Mandriva 2010 64Bit.

I use at this moment a Canon IP3000 with PCLinuxOS 2010.1 on my Laptop......
(for the last weeks, when there is no ink left, I stop using it (bad printer heads, leaking black one....: costs too much and Canon doesn't support linux at all)

What I did (and worked until now on different computers):
going to PCLinuxOS Control Center >> ?devices? >> Printers (sorry, mine is in dutch..)
Then clicking Add Printer
Deselect automatically identify your printer or something like that; then Next
The place where my printer is: /dev/usb/lp0;   Next;      Click "No" (no HP-printer)
Wait some seconds
Model     Select "Canon"; then select "PIXMA IP3000"; then click Next
Then selecting some options (your personal preferences); Next
Type name, description and location (I always do all three of them)
Select Next
(maybe you have to select it to default printer or not)
Then I print a standard test page, or my own test page (a Writer-document for example)

And it should work now....
(if it doesn't after you have tried, say it here....  8) )

Hi rubentje1991,
I tried your method of getting the Canon ip3000 working and basically it worked.
I did have to change the detected port from lp0 to usb/lp0. It then printed on paper and on the DVD.
Many thanks for your input.

Don,

Agreed!! TurboPrint when used with Canon printers is hands-down
the best piece of native Linux software I have purchased.

I love the tight integration with GIMP.  Makes printing directly on
CD/DVDs very easy.

Regards,

AussieBear.

Hi AussieBear.

Thumbs up to that.
Yes, I do CD/DVD labels printed to the disk surface with Gimp too. Wonderful.
I have Pixma ip3000 and Pixma MP640. Magic with Turboprint.
Keep smiling.

Don.... Aussie too.
