PCLOS 2010 Fails To Shutdown [ Solved ]

I have a slightly different twist on the problem. When I click the shutdown button the shutdown screen comes on -- the blue with the PC circle in the middle. It then consistently hangs and I have to do a hard shutdown. BUT if I quickly hit F1 so the text comes up, it shuts down normally and there are no error messages. If I hit F1 too late to bring up the shutdown text it still hangs.

I'm wondering if getting rid of the shutdown graphic screen would fix the problem, but don't know how to do it. Anybody know?

Did anyone try disabling the Enable ACPI setting in Control Center>Setup Boot System.... Save changes and then re-enable ACPI and re-save changes.  Toggling this setting in the past has solved similar issues.
Just asking.

Tried it, Steve, didn't work.

In my case, I'm convinced the problem has something to do with the graphic shutdown splash screen, because when I hit F1 quickly enough, the scrolling text comes up an shutdown proceeds normally. Doesn't anybody know how to get rid of the shutdown splash?

This is with the 2.6.33.6-pclos1.a64 kernel, BTW.

yes, same was for me....

Your plymouth-theme for booting-up and shutting-down (there is something wrong with it).....

Go to Synaptic, do a search for 'plymouth', and install another theme (it is set as standard automatically)...


After that, do a shutdown, and I haven't experienced any problems with all the other themes I think (not completely sure, but standard one with the bull is working well, and my current "space-sunrise" also works good)
Haven't posted it yet here (hadn't the time to; and I thought it was only my 'problem' - but I didn't liked the theme really)

PS the application "ezswitch" works very well to switch themes of plymouth (do a search in synaptic - you'll find it)

Thanks ruben -- that did the trick. Using the solar flare one, it's working beautifully. The ezswitch app is well worth downloading -- takes a lot of the annoyance out of Plymouth.

Well, tried again to resolve this problem. This time, I installed PCLinuxOS MiniMe and during the installation process, I disabled the ACPI functionality, during the Boot configuration step. After installation, went into PCLOS COntrol Center => System Services and made sure ACPI was Stopped. Once that was done, re-booted. Once system was re-booted, did a Shutdown. Now the system shuts down as it is supposed to.

Don't know why after flashing the BIOS of my MOB with the next to latest version should have resolved this problem, but it didn't. This should have resolved conflicts with ACPI, but it didn't. Nevertheless, I can live with ACPI being disabled on my desktop PC and very happy to be using PCLOS again as my favorite Linux dsitro. BTW, I have PCLOS installed on my HP laptop and I experience no problems with Shutdown on that device.

Well anyway, hope this helps others. And thanks to all who have helped me with this. I still think PCLOS is the best Linux distro out there.
