« on: June 02, 2010, 09:59:39 AM »
howdy all,
yeah, i can go to lxappearance, and choose any other theme under the 'window' tab - click 'apply' - but nothing changes. it seems to be stuck on clearlooks.

Open lxdecc > click Configure Openbox > choose the theme you want.

hey Neal,
yeah, the openbox themes can be switched fine, just not the 'GTK and Icon' part, which, from lxdecc, brings up lxappearance, of course.

Have you checked to see if the theme you're trying to switch to is installed?

yep, installed 'murrine' just to be sure. all of those themes show up in the list, but it just goes back to clearlooks again after i click 'apply'.
this might be worth noting, too: also in lxappearance, the fonts and icons also can't be changed.
sorry for the trouble

Try menu > more applications > configuration > gtk theme switch 2.

 :) Sometimes there's more than one way to get something done. When you don't know another way, you ask. It's a simple but effective method of learning / advancing.
Now you know an answer that you can share, if someone has the question. :)

I could ask one more time, just to deepen the learning experience.  ;)
Seriously, I noticed the same thing this morning, after I made 'task-lxde' via Synaptic on my Gnome box.
Neal, will you fix it, so that it is working whatever way we go?  :D

Performancewise, I didn't notice a great different between LXDE and Gnome, because my machine is quite fast already. However, LXDE is much faster launching for the first time than PCLOS Gnome.
Your LXDE looks great, Neal. Maybe I'll make a fresh start with it.

My oldest machine is a PIII @800mhz with 512 MB RAM. I tried Zen Mini, e17, and LXDE on it. LXDE and e17 were the fastest and most usable. I believe LXDE has a slight speed edge, but that's a personal judgement, as I've run no real benchmarks. Folding@home runs on the machine 24/7. The desktop is still very snappy.

In the meantime, I have installed LXDE. Trying to switch the gtk2-theme with the switcher application doesn't really make it. First of all, most of the installed themes which are listed there cannot be activated. The only which is working except of the default theme is Bluecurve, and it only prevails until shutdown.
The same with the icon sets. They cannot be selected either.
I'll try to manually edit the .gtkrc file, but I'm afraid, something is formatting it with the next system launch.

PS: Didn't work. The file stays the same, however it seems to be ignored when logging in.

>qbrick,

is this ISO LXDE installation or KDE+task-lxde? I'm using LXDE/OpenBox/e17  [ISO] and I never had a problem changing GTK Theme Switch 2:

Hello coffeetime,

the themeswitcher 2 has the disadvantage, that you cannot change the icon set. Anyway, an easy solution to this problem has been brought to us by wbshrk in this thread:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,74436.0.html
Somehow I forgot to add it here.

Just go to /usr/share/lxde and edit the config file in way that you put comment signs at the beginning of each value you want to change yourself with the comfortable gtk-theme&icon-switcher.
This my config:

Code: [Select]
[GTK]
#iNet/DoubleClickTime=400
#iNet/DoubleClickDistance
#iNet/DndDragThreshold
#iNet/CursorBlink
#iNet/CursorBlinkTime
#sNet/ThemeName=Clearlooks                             <--- for the gtk-theme
#sNet/IconThemeName=nuoveXT2                            <--- for the icon set
#sGtk/FontName=Sans 10
#iGtk/IconSizes
#sGtk/KeyThemeName
#iGtk/ToolbarStyle=3
#iGtk/ToolbarIconSize
#iGtk/IMPreeditStyle
#iGtk/IMStatusStyle
sGtk/FileChooserBackend=
iGtk/ButtonImages=1
iGtk/MenuImages=1
sGtk/CursorThemeName=
iGtk/CursorThemeSize=18
iXft/Antialias=1
#iXft/Hinting
#iXft/HintStyle
#iXft/RGBA
#iXft/DPI
#sNet/FallbackIconTheme=hicolor
#iGtk/TouchscreenMode

[Mouse]
AccFactor=20
AccThreshold=10
LeftHanded=0

[Keyboard]
Delay=500
Interval=30

Cheers.  :)

I'm encountering this same error with LXDE 2010.07 installed in a virtual machine. I can change the Openbox theme through LXDECC > Configure Openbox. However LXDECC > GTK & Icon Theme are unresponsive (meaning I can't change anything in theme). Moreover editing /usr/share/lxde/config is only partly successful. The theme will change, but the icons won't. I tried changing to the pre-installed GNOME icon theme and only some of the icons worked; the rest either remained the default theme (nuoveXT-aero) or disappeared entirely. Changing from GNOME to other themes was entirely unsuccessful, apart from changing back to the default.

Any ideas?  ???

I'll need to do some investigating.
