[SOLVED] LXDE font size problem
« on: May 31, 2010, 11:09:46 AM »
After re-install I have mysteriously lost ability to change font size. When I go to Configuration > LXAppearance and try to change the font size the preview shows that size has changed, but when I click OK and Apply to make changes permanent, I still have the default Sans 10 size. When I tested same thing with live-cd there were no problems. Any suggestions? Another re-install doesn't sound nice at all, because everything else works splendidly.

Hi,

Try changing the font size in the file ~/.gtkrc.mine

There is no dumb question.

The files that start with a dot are hidden files. When writing it's path as ~/.gtkrc.mine means it's in your home. (hence the ~ and the / that is the root of your home directory).

You must open it with a text editor (kwrite in Kde, Gedit in Gnome, Leafpad in Lxde, mousepad in Xfce are the ones most often default installed).

Then you will see a line that talks about the font size, just change the number there. Don't forget to save the change. Close the text editor. Reload X : quit the X session so that it be reloaded and come back to the X session.

Open PCManFM > click View (on the toolbar) > click Show hidden files > look for the file .gtkrc-2.0 and open it with leafpad. Look for the line that starts with gtk-font-name= (the last line, I think). The font name and size will be listed there. Change to the size you want. Click File (on the toolbar) > click Save > click File > click Quit. Uncheck Show hidden files. Close PCManFM.

Thanks melodie and Neal. Your tips were very helpful. But coffeetime's was much more easier for this kind of dumbbell like me ;D
Now my fonts are back in order. Thanks!
