Upgrade to 2010
« on: May 30, 2010, 11:23:38 AM »
Hi,

I'm a newbie to this and have a machine with pclos 2009.  I have the live cd for 2010.  How do I upgrade my system to 2010 without losing my current applications and home directories?  Is iot possible to upgrade or do I need to start over?

Thanks Clay

An upgrade is not possible from 2009 to 2010. Too many things have changed and the newest version requires a reinstall, after that a rolling update will maintain it. As for not losing your home directory, some suggest backing it up and installing the 2010 version with a fresh home directory and copying what you need from the 2009 home.  I have done it this way and also just save and used the existing home directory without ill effects. YMMV.......  Hope that this helps
