DELL Studio 1558 Model problem with Sound and Video
« on: May 25, 2010, 09:23:08 AM »
I have bought DELL Studio 1559 Model which has:
ATI Radeon 5470

AUDIO
Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06)
ATI Technologies Inc Manhattan HDMI Audio [Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series]

VGA
ATI Technologies Inc Manhattan [Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series]

Relevant Sections of xorg.conf file
Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "monitor1"
    VendorName "Generic"
    ModelName "Flat Panel 1366x768"
    HorizSync 31.5-53.0
    VertRefresh 56.0-69.0
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier "device1"
BoardName "ATI Radeon HD 2000 and later (radeonhd/fglrx)"
    Driver "fglrx"
    Option "DPMS"
EndSection

Is that the right driver? or should i have to use a higher version? Is it in the repo?

The video quality is sloppy/awful.

ANOTHER Problem:
It has 1 microphone jack and 2 headphone jacks. While the laptop speaker works fine, the moment i connect a headphone in either jacks, there
are no sound :( I have tried each possible settings in alsamixer, kmix and systemsettings but have failed.

Systemsettings>Multimedia shows me these adevices
HDA Intel (STAC92xx Analog)
HD-Audio Generic, ATI HDMI (HDMI Audio Output)

When i test them only the 1st one work while the other dont.

I need these things sorted out as it makes my new lappy useless.

I solved the Headphone problem by installing Kernel 2.6.34 and used x11(slow) as video output in SMplayer and it solved my full screen jitters too.
Thanks guys on the irc for suggesting a kernel upgrade.
