I did not have m4 installed on two boxes one older one a lot newer. The older box did not have any problem with FF shutting down properly and the newer still does after installing m4 and rebooting. m4 is not the problem in my case.

Seamonkey does not shut down properly either. It appears that no mozilla apps are shutting down properly. They all have to be killed from the shell and then they will launch again. But each time you launch any mozilla app it has to be killed at the shell to close all the way.

Have you been playing with the qt-gtk themes?

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

If I am understanding your question correctly the only that I know I did was install the qt-gtk-engine.

I mentioned the same problem about Firefox starting a first time and not starting a second time sometimes during the beta cycle of PCLinuxOS 2010. I could start it by using -safe-mode and disabling extensions but next time it would start anymore. I didn't check lately because I'm not using Firefox but Opera as my primary browser (I just needed FF to download Opera's latest build :-D).

This was happening on FF and Thunderbird so switched to Seamonkey and they do it as well. Seems to be getting worse as time goes on.
PCLinuxOS (currently), Xandros, Suse, Mandrake, Linspire

I have just updated 3 add-ons to firefox and quit the application.  It would not re-load and firefox was not included in the list of running processes.  I have consequently reinstated the previous version of the .mozilla folder.

I was able to reload firefox after updating extensions and deleting the files extensions.cache, extensions.ini and extensions.rdf

The trouble is that I have to delete those 3 files each time before I can start Firefox.

LATER: the following extensions were creating a problem: GreaseMonkey, Session Manager and Stylish.

My FF problem finally cleared up after a couple more repo updates.
