chmod 664 or chmod 660 would be safer, if you only need group permission, but how would the permissions of the freedesktop launcher affect the application?

This is all being taken care of with the script Texstar has prepared. The script works as is, from a root terminal, but a regular package is being prepared that will have a GUI interface for running the script. I did a clean install of 3.2.2 on a 2010.1 installation from the script, and all items are working 100%. My USB all-in-one unit is recognized in the Win2k VM and the scanner, which is the whole point of this VM, works perfectly.

On my MiniMe installation, I installed the package libpython2.5-devel, then re ran the installation package. The USB now works, out of the box, without further fuss. This package should also be installed before running Texstar's script, for a new installation. Once the GUI package is complete, this will be done automatically, as a dependency.

They've already posted another update.  This one labeled 3.2.4.  Will Tex's script be able to adjust so as to pick up the latest one?

Have a look at the advanced users section,
things regarding usb connectivity haven't been sorted out yet.

 Cheers, Hoos.

Not just showing, but working. That's my USB connected (don't have Linux drivers) Epson all in one scanner, actually scanning with the Windows drivers and scan program that came on the packaged CD. That's my sole reason to have a Windows VM.

Sorry Gentlemen;
Not been sorted out by me.
In the meantime I got into forums.virtualbox.org and
there is still a long thread going regarding the usb issue:
http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=30684&start=30

Anyway, I still don't have usb working in 3.2.4 but working in 3.1.8.
Almost needless to say I did not change any items in the setup
of either the vm or the host.
However, you both don't seem to run into any problems,
I'm getting confused here if I weren't already.... ???
