yeah - got the same problem with the ip 1800.  A friend of mine is thrilled with PCLOS (LXDE) which I set up for him to test on a notebook but I cannot get his printer up and running for him so he will probably abandon us  :-[.  I don't know if this was an in-between model or only made in Europe/Asia but Canon's official site does not provide drivers (Linux).  There was a driver on the Australia site (unofficial) for a while but seems to have disappeared....  There is an ip 1700/1900 but no 1800.  I thought I might just try the next nearest to the 1800 and see what happens.

Have you tried any close models?

I would suggest using a driver model  number closest to the one you are looking for. Quite often one driver can cover many printers. Possibly try the one ABOVE you one.
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Sony Vaio SVE1513A4ESI Laptop, Intel Core i5, 2.6GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB, 15.6" Intel HD Graphics 4000

Thanks for the prompt reply.  I never thought of paying for anything  ;D ;D but the trial is worth a try.
