Trying to get webcam working
« on: May 22, 2010, 06:34:23 AM »
Hi all,
Hope you can help me.
Got a Chicony 2.0 webcam
Code: [Select]
uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Chicony USB 2.0 Camera (04f2:b008)
input: Chicony USB 2.0 Camera as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb2/2-3/2-3:1.0/input/input8
usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
USB Video Class driver (v0.1.0)

find /lib/modules -name uvcvideo*
/lib/modules/2.6.32.11-pclos2.bfs/kernel/drivers/media/video/uvc/uvcvideo.ko.gz

# lsmod |grep uvc*
uvcvideo               47771  0
videodev               29617  1 uvcvideo
v4l1_compat            11233  2 uvcvideo,videodev
usbcore               121266  9 snd_usb_audio,snd_usb_lib,uvcvideo,wacom,uhci_hcd,ohci_hcd,ehci_hcd,usbhid
# ls -l /dev/video*
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 0 2010-05-22 13:08 /dev/video0
Running camorama resulted in
Code: [Select]
Could not connect to /dev/video0I'm in the video group
Is the default uvcvideo only v4l1 compatible?

Try cheese or wxcam. Skype would be another. Wxcam has never worked for me before, but I just installed the latest version, and it found my cam instantly, so now works for the first time. My cam is also uses uvcvideo.

wxcam and cheese have worked for me. Video only, no sound.
Fair warning: I am a whiny, selfish brat who should be denied access to 2010, per a moderator. Box: Acer Aspire One 110-xxxx model. XP wiped (and flushed), 2010 gnome (despite mod) grafted onto 8g flash HD via livecd.

wxcam and cheese have worked for me. Video only, no sound.

I found I had to go to 'options', 'sound devices' and select the correct 'USB device'. Then the mic worked! (The 'default device' was not the correct one, it has to be 'USB .... defaultdevice'.

Go to "'options', 'sound devices' and select the correct 'USB device'" where? I don't see those entries in either wxcam or cheese.
