E17 multiple IBars( SOLVED )
« on: May 22, 2010, 03:03:35 AM »
is there a way to upload multiple different IBar modules??
in KDE i used to have my favorite applications divided on 3 different panels showing on 3 borders of the screen.... internet applications on one panel, system applications on another and sun applications on the third...
now i have to collect all on one IBar... and even after the last update i found that i can make many bars but they cant be showing all in the same time... is there a way to show them all in the same time?

yes my friend...you can load so many IBars and shelfs... but the problem is that they will always be duplicates...
they will always have the same configuration and applications in them...
i wasnt asking about that...i was asking if i can load multiple different IBars...
for example... i want to have IBar which has the following icons(mozilla, thunderbird, ktorrent, kopete) on the upper edge.
and another IBar showing the icons(pcc, synaptic, eterm, system monitor, dolphin, ksnapshot) on the left edge
both showing in the same time...
is this possible???
Hope that one day ill be able to help as much as I'm being helped now...

Just add an ibar source for every ibar you use, newly addd ibars will always use the default source, just change the resource in the ibar's setup (or add a new resource) and click to setup to choose applications to add/order. (see screenshot below)

In the latest version we also have itask ng which uses the same resources as the ibar.

when u add new resource you cant show the 2 IBars in the same time... you have to toggle from the settings panel...
so you can have only one resource showing at a time...
even for the shelves... it will show the same IBar resource...
what i was asking for is that to be able to have 2 or more different IBars or shelves with different application menus showing in the same time

Never ever dare me ;)

Even remained after relogin. Just setup two resources for example 'apps' and 'system', add and sort your shortcuts then for each ibar you add in the ibar's setup select the source you want to use and click apply.

You know the easiest way to add icons to the ibar?
1- open the application you want to add
2- drag the icon in the left of the window titlebar to the ibar.
3- You can also drag the icons in the ibar or itask ng gadget to reposition them.

Learned all this by trial and error and lots of e17 crashes lol

I don't think you can run more than one ibar source simultaneously.  Best bet would be set up a keyboard shortcut that toggles between sources.  No?

Look at my screenshot on the link in my post above, in the centre of the screen i've 2 ibar's running different resources.
The itask-ng on the bottom of the screen uses the same resource as the upper ibar.

Another setup with 4 ibar resources, i can even drag'n drop icons from one ibar to another, only need to restart enlightenment from the menu before the moved icon shows up. (no logout needed just e17 restart)
Easy way to add an icon to a resource is to drop the icon from the upper left window corner to an ibar.
In itask-ng you can also change the resource but itask-ng allows only instance while you can add multiple ibar gadgets.

Ahhh!!  Thankyou smurfslover!!  That's awesome :D  So I would guess in the same way the "drawer" gadget can have it's own contents since it is based on an ibar source?

The drawer gadget is obsoleted starting from e17 dev version 0.16.999.063. If you're update you shouldn't have it anymore.

add 3 ibar's to your desktop, then right-click on each ibar and choose 'Settings' from the context menu.
Choose the resource you want to use and don't forget to click 'Apply' before you close the window.

Hi drhadidy , then right-click on each ibar and choose 'Settings' from the context menu I will leave this window.

Click in tab "Add" , In the window that you put out a name and "Apply" , now tab Setup , select the applications you want, then "Apply".

Now we add the new Shelf (add in the Ibar shelf), put it where you prefer and then right-click on the Ibar that new shelf in selected Settings Ibar you have created.

Agust

I see, thanks.  On the PCLinuxOS E17 2010 live CD; the shortcut button for the PCLOS Control Center (PCC) also has Firefox in the menu and appears to function as a "shelf".  Can other shortcuts be added to that menu along with PCC and FF?
