E17 background problems after updates
« on: May 22, 2010, 02:57:14 AM »
just updated my system yesterday... and there was a big portion of that update for task enlightenment and agust themes...
after the update was trying the new themes and stuff and suddenly something strange happened...
first... i lost all the background files which were stored in my /.e/e/backgrounds!!!
then after i got them back from my backup i found out that all my animated backgrounds dont work anymore...(even the animated backgrounds that come with agust themes package)
and my other backgrounds (non animated) which were setup to be stretched or fill( coz have different resolution than my monitor ) lost that and being displayed on the corner by their original size!! tried to load them again and stretch of fill but this doesnt work anymore...
i reinstalled the agust themes package but still have those 2 problems...
any ideas?
Hope that one day ill be able to help as much as I'm being helped now...

Please note due to the complex issues of upgrading from the old version to the new version this upgrade will reset your desktop to the default settings. This means you will have to go back and customize your desktop again.

For best results use the task-enlightenment package to upgrade your E17 installation.

i understand that my friend.... when i made the update my desktop got back to defaults... but the problem is that when now i try to reconfigure it i cant do everything i want....
first the animated backgrounds dont load... even the animated backgrounds included in your theme packages...
they show up as a blank screen!!!
and when i try to load any other background that is not originally having the same resolution as my screen i cant use the options of "fill" or "stretch" ....
is there anything i can do to show the animated backgrounds and fix the background selection?
Hope that one day ill be able to help as much as I'm being helped now...

It could be the old themes are not compatible with the new E17. I noticed the Exchange site is now offline.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

Trying to put up a french PCLinuxOS collection, I met with similar issues in E17. I can change the background but not more than once and after the frenetic clicks I know on the buttons don't produce effects anymore, and after installing agust's e17 theme from Synaptic, I don't find where I should click to get it to appear. I think  I am a full newbie with theses gui's and don't get how they function. Or maybe it simply does not work the way it should. The actual new default theme is "smooth black and white".

I'll wait for the next E17 quarterly to try to make a french version out of it, and will give more time to the other versions in the meanwhile.

Okay guys, I'm going to be working on the next ISO with the desktop settings tweaked as closely to original ISO as I can get.  I'll unload the old themes and install new themes Agust has been working on.  Hopefully we can get some of these issues worked out.  I know a few older items, such as app launcher doesn't work and there is something else in lieu of it.  Just give me a bit of time.  I finally got Internet here in Oregon, and have a 3 dayer coming up.  I'll be looking to my e17 team for tips and tricks and how to best manage the new changes.

Thanks and glad to be back!!

Well , to have a default theme simply do this.
First , take the time to do this other theme than the default of Enlightenment.
Second , copy and paste we want as the default theme on the path usr/share/enlightenment/data/themes.
Third , rename the default theme example "default1" and rename we want as the "default" theme.
"Only use as default the last themes made"

Si Senor!!  Thanks Agust.  I've already downloaded the updates.  I have the Ibar in place so the default 3 apps are sitting right there in the task bar (shelf) like before, they just don't scroll now.  Got the wall paper put back in place (it was a hook or crook deal), um, going to install newer themes and  get rid of older themes, I hope.  Um, I see navigation bar on efm isn't working (just like mentioned before), then the rest is up to the user.

One other thing I noticed is that 'places' doesn't automatically update information as I add to, or clean out the install.  :(

Me working on it!!  ;D ;D

Hope that one day ill be able to help as much as I'm being helped now...

You guys are weird, ya know?? (Just kidding).  I have updated my system, and instead of using ItaskNG, I'm using Ibar.  It shows me my favorite apps on a small bar in the lower shelf.  Click and go.  I've clicked on the ItaskNG several time and nuthing happens.  It doesn't add a shelf to my desktop that I can see.  There is something I see when I've opened and app though.. I don't want that floating around the desktop, so further investigation is required here.  Other than those two small items,  The navigation bar doesn't work on efm as reported earlier, and um... ah... can't find anything else to report on.  All my other settings for e17 pretty much stuck like glue.  Nice!!

Hu!!!  ::) New themes "S1" last version in repos? I not see them.
Really with the latest updated version 999.063 , I have had almost no problem.

To add an itask-ng go to the settings panel / navigate to 'extensions' / click itask-ng / in the new window click add to get an instance of itask-ng on your desktop. Then you can start setting up to your desire. :)

Every windows machine has an un-patchable critical vulnerability... Its called "Power ON" switch.

Same here. ItaskNG has never worked, but I've never really needed it. But this is Linux! Where there's a will, there's a way.

One bit of weirdness I've run into with Agust's themes is the icon for the show desktop module shown in the left side of shelf1. The one I'm referring to is a four-paned grey icon, like window panes. I like transparency in panel 1. If I load a theme with that particular icon, then click the show desktop icon, the icon becomes transparent, and is no longer selectable. Maybe the png has a transparent background?

The theme I'm running now is an older one, A-SBlack Blue, because the show desktop icon is usable.

Thanks. The procedure is a bit unintuitive.
