Format Clock Display [SOLVED]
« on: May 11, 2010, 06:40:28 PM »
I just downloaded and installed the KDE version of PCLOS 2010, and the new GUI takes some getting used to.  In the 2007 and 2009 versions I had the clock display in the lower right corner set to display in 24 hour format.  In the new version, the clock displays in 12 hour format, and I have been unable to figure out how to change it to 24 hour format.

Thanks in advance for your help.

i can't find it either.  mine currently reads '03:16 am' whatever that means.  comes afternoon and it will read '03: 16 pm'.  i'm becoming accustomed to its barmy eccentricity.

LOL!!  I know what you mean.  If I recall correctly from my school days, (a long long time ago) AM & PM are abbreviations of Latin terms for "before noon" and "after noon".  Anyway, that's the way they are used here in the states.

When I was in high school I bought an Elgin wristwatch that had a 24 hour face.  (i.e. The hour hand made one revolution in twenty-four hours instead of one revolution in twelve hours.)  I really used to blow some minds with that watch, but after I went in the Navy it got waterlogged, and that was the end of it.

That worked, thanks. Like I said in my original post, this new GUI takes some getting used to.

I changed the format in Conf Desktop/Regional Lang/Times&Setting.  However, the digital clock in the plasma wigets only shows a 12 hr clock and does not display the 24 hr format.

Any other options?

Are you sure you changed the time format to "HH:MM:SS"?  Have you verified that it didn't get changed back to "pH:MM:SS AMPM"?  If you can answer yes to both questions you will need to find someone more knowledgeable than I am.

Bob, kept at it until it saved to HH:MM:SS.  Apparently it reverted back to pH.

Thank you.

You're welcome.  That has happened to me in the past also.

This occurs because many plasma widgets (..including the clock) don't automatically refresh when settings are changed.  In the future, you can force new settings to be read by restarting plasma-desktop; this is done either with a simple log out/in, or from konsole with the following command:

Code: [Select]
killall plasma-desktop && plasma-desktop
