How to change console (VT) keyboard layout
« on: May 20, 2010, 04:48:57 AM »
If you find that your keyboard layout is wrong in console (I don't mean one you opened from your desktop, but a pure non-X login prompt) or VT (Virtual Terminal, the ones you get when pressing ctrl-alt-1 to 6), this may help.

You should first set your keyboard preference using the PCLinuxOS "Configure your Computer", and "Configure your Desktop", or whichever GUI tools are provided on your desktop.

If it still hasn't changed, then do the following:

Login as root or su to root and run this command -

Code: [Select]
mv /etc/sysconfig/console/default.kmap /etc/sysconfig/console/disabled.default.kmap
Then reboot the machine for it to take system-wide.
desktop - ASUS M4A79XTD Evo, PhenomII X2-550, 4gigs DDR3, nVidia GTX260.

laptop - Alienware m17x, i7, 6gigs DDR3, single MXM type IIIb ATI 4870.
